The Roman skies were sunny as the hijinks jumped off the stage in this high-energy all-male production of the classic Sondheim musical. The lighting design generally created a gleaming palette on which this top-notch cast could get the audience rolling off their seats. For the more heightened musical numbers, the design cranked up the saturation and sharpness of cueing with especially exciting approaches the surprisingly tragic and epic opening dithyramb, the sharp and witty “Everybody Ought to Have Maid”, the operatic “Dirty Old Man”, and the video-aided shadow play in “Pretty Little Picture”.
