Weaving together the stories of five young New Yorkers, this new musical took a tuneful look at the city that never sleeps and those who inhabit it. Five storylines threaded in and around this unit set which, though the use of lighting, transformed into everything from a moving subway car to a nightclub to a soul-less office, to a small walk-up apartment. Each space and each character had its own energy, but just as the characters’ paths eventually crossed and their voices blended in harmony, so the lighting design had to mesh all these worlds together into one cohesive, if heightened, New York City. By the end of the show, the city transformed into a constellation of windows, each holding its own story within, but all together making up the skyline.
